Dr. Mohamed Aboukhatwa is a research scientist with the Illinois Applied Research Institute. Dr. Aboukhatwa is a metals expert, with expertise in metals manufacturing processes, phase transformations, mechanical behavior, and fracture mechanics. He is also a lecturer with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, teaching courses in advanced metals science. Before joining the University of Illinois and ARI, he worked in the aerospace sector as a repair development engineer specializing in analytical support, evaluations, and calculations for gas turbine repair schemes at StandardAero in Winnipeg, Canada.
Dr. Aboukhatwa earned his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 2009. His thesis examined recrystallization kinetics in AA6111 aluminum alloys. He earned his B.Sc. in 1999 and his M.Sc. in 2003 in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
