Peter Groves is a Senior Software Engineer at the ARI in its Data Science program. He is a machine learning expert with years of experience crafting solutions for industry and at NCSA.
While a graduate student in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Computer Science program, he worked at NCSA from 2000 until 2003 as a graduate research assistant performing research in the implementation of neural networks, genetic algorithms, and other automated learning techniques in Java. After a period working for Riverglass in Chicago from 2004 to 2006 in several different roles, Groves returned to NCSA in 2008 to become a Research Engineer in its SEASR project.
From 2006 to 2013, Groves worked on machine learning and software developments for a variety of companies. Concurrently, he founded and operated DesignByRobots, a company that commercialized automated design technologies.
Groves then worked at Groupon from 2013 until spring 2015 as a Software Engineer in its automated merchandising team. He focused on developing machine learning systems for deal bundling.
He earned an M.S. in Computer Science in 2003 and a B.S in Agricultural Engineering with a Minor in Computer Science in 2001 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
