Zachary Merrin

Research Engineer

Zach Merrin is a research engineer in ARI’s Indoor Climate Research and Training (ICRT) group where he has worked since 2011.

At ARI, Zach conducts research on building science projects that focus on the relationship between energy efficiency and indoor air quality, primarily in residential applications. He is involved in every step of the project including proposal generation, research planning, field work management and execution, data analysis, instrument selection, and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Zach is also involved with the Weatherization Assistance Program, which provides low-cost energy assessments and upgrades for occupants of low-income housing, to reduce their energy bills and improve their quality of life.

Zach’s research focuses on reducing building energy consumption without negatively affecting the health of the occupants or the building itself.

“Because buildings are so ubiquitous, even when our research is highly scientific or intended for professional practitioners, there is always something that is interesting and accessible to a general audience that they can apply to their own lives or homes.”
